Unless Evernorth Books is arranging editorial services as part of a client agreement, works submitted for publishing via the Evernorth Books imprint must be free of errors and edited to a publishable standard.
Evernorth Books does not accept works that:
Positively depict or promote abuse of children and adults in all forms, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, including:
Relationships with grooming dynamics, such as age-gap storylines where one character knew the other as a child while being an adult themselves
Non-consensual acts depicted without critical framing
Positively depict or promote hate speech, as defined in the Criminal Code of Canada, (R.S.C., 1985, c. C-46)
Portray identities outside the author’s identity/identities in uninformed or stereotypical ways
Contain content that is otherwise illegal or restricted by Amazon KDP or Ingram Content Group
Evernorth Books reserves the right to turn down clients whose submissions are deemed by our staff to contain objectionable content.
All published works facilitated by Evernorth Books, either through comprehensive management or advisory services, are required to provide readers with advance disclosures of potentially concerning or distressing content. Such disclosures, commonly referred to as content advisories, content warnings, trigger warnings etc., are expected by readers across a wide variety of genres, and Evernorth Books is committed to ensuring that readers are able to engage with our published and facilitated works in a safe and comfortable manner. We apply a standardized internal content review to all of our works to develop a specific list of potentially distresing content, and authors are contractually obligated to make these lists available for each work, either in the book itself or prominently on their author website.
We stand behind our internal values of individuality and specificity, and as such, we will never apply vague, all-encompassing content designations to any of our works, either in the name of plot integrity or otherwise. Our position as a publishing facilitator is not taken lightly, and the responsibility to our readers comes first.
Reader expectations for such disclosures are evolving in time with the dynamic nature of society. We continuously review content advisories and implement updates when appropriate; we also welcome reader input in this area to mitigate any potential shortcomings.
In general, authors should not use Generative Artificial Intelligence (genAI) for works submitted to Evernorth Books, and Evernorth Books will not use genAI at any point when providing or facilitating client services. We thoroughly vet external service providers to ensure alignment with company pratices and values.
For Imprint Publishing services, Evernorth Books does not permit client submissions to have used genAI in the creation of manuscripts, cover art, or promotional materials, to the extent that exclusive copyright over the work is jeopardized.
General Principles
Client authors must hold the copyright for all works submitted, in accordance with US and Canadian copyright law
Authors must ensure that their submitted work is original, and that the copyright cannot be challenged due to plagiarism and/or use of genAI
If, upon a standard initial review, original authorship is in doubt, the client bears the burden of proof in demonstrating original authorship and compliance with copyright law.
Evernorth Books will not conduct business with a client whose claim to copyright is not established, and we will terminate business with any work that is subsequently found to lack legal copyright protections attributable entirely to the author, through demonstrated genAI use or otherwise.
We do not consider the following to be genAI:
Automated spelling and grammar checking, such as the basic spellcheck in Microsoft Word or Google Docs
Advanced spelling and grammar checking services, such as Grammarly, provided that text generation and re-phrasing is not used
Use of writing and editorial assistance software such as Autocrit or ProWritingAid, provided that text generation and re-phrasing is not used
Use of programs such as Adobe Photoshop to modify images, provided that tools similar to "Generative Fill" are not used
Use of hired beta readers, editors, and proofreaders
